Once Upon a Mystery

Since the advent of archeology, with its unexpected treasures like the Dead Sea Scrolls, rediscovering “hidden wisdom” literature has become more and more commonplace. As a result, it no longer seems farfetched that there might be another source of biblical truth, not found amongst the traditional sixty-six books of the Bible. What’s more, this source of truth is able to provide critical missing pieces to the biblical record.

In this way, these remarkable texts are finally helping to answer questions that have puzzled scholars for years. That’s why, when rumors of a surviving Enochian manuscript began to surface, the Scottish explorer James Bruce was so eager to get his hands on a copy, no matter the cost to him personally.

So, in 1773, Bruce endured an extremely hazardous journey to Ethiopia, where he was eventually able to secure three copies of the rare book. Then, in 1821, Dr. Richard Laurence, professor of Hebrew at Oxford, translated the work into English, providing the West with its first view of Enoch’s “forbidden mysteries.”1
